Aokigahara forest (Jukai) — Kawiguchiko, Japan
On average 75-100+ humans take their own lives in this very forest every year. The layout of the land is too dangerous to be regularly patrolled, therefor, bodies are left to decay over the year and then there is an annual sweep of all remains. The sweep is not thorough and many are left behind. If you enter the forest, you will find strips of tape weaved around trees, these are the trails of those who were unsure whether they wanted to die or not — so that they could find their way out. If you follow the tape, you will nearly always find something at the end. Either a body or traces of a person being there. Just outside of the propery, there are cars that have been abandoned for months. Locals’ guesses are that they went into the forest and never came out.
